As our business continues to grow, one of our key priorities has been to maintain the collaborative and supportive culture we’ve worked hard to build. A big part of how we achieve this is through our use of DISC.

What is DISC?

DISC is a behavioural assessment tool that helps individuals understand their communication style, preferences, and how they interact with others. It groups behaviours into four main types, Dominant, Influencer, Steady and Conscientious. Everyone is a blend of these traits, and understanding that blend provides valuable insight into how we work best, both individually and as part of a team.

Embedding DISC Into Our Business

DISC is fully embedded into our people strategy. Our HR Director is a qualified DISC practitioner, which allows us to use the framework in a meaningful and structured way across the Company.

All new starters complete a full DISC profile assessment as part of their onboarding. They receive a detailed 16-page report outlining their behavioural preferences, communication style, strengths, and potential challenges. This gives them immediate self-awareness from day one.

From there, the process becomes collaborative. The management team is briefed on each new starter’s DISC profile and the HR Director walks managers through the insights, helping them understand how to best support and communicate with their team members. Team based DISC sessions are also run to build awareness across the wider group.

The Impact on Communication

The results have been significant. DISC has transformed the way our teams communicate, not only with each other, but also with our customers.

By understanding different communication styles, employees have been able to adapt how they approach conversations, reduce misunderstandings and build stronger working relationships.

It has also helped individuals identify the types of work that energise them versus those that drain them.

Supporting Our Culture as We Grow

One of the most powerful outcomes of using DISC has been its impact on our culture.

By openly sharing and discussing DISC profiles, we create an environment of transparency and understanding. People gain insight not only into themselves, but also into their colleagues, why they work the way they do, what motivates them, and how best to collaborate.

Investment into DISC has enabled us to move beyond assumptions and build relationships based on real insight.

By investing in tools like DISC and embedding them into our HR practices, we’re not just improving communication, we’re strengthening our culture, supporting our people, and building a business where everyone feels they belong.
