Our client is a characterful seafront hotel in Weymouth, Dorset, welcoming guests since 1926. Housed across a pair of Georgian townhouses originally built in 1780, the property is full of charm, but older buildings like this come with a familiar challenge: thick walls, awkward layouts, and Wi-Fi that simply can’t keep up with modern guest expectations.

The Problem

Like many hotels of its age and style, our client was relying on a network that had grown organically over the years rather than being properly designed. Coverage was inconsistent, dead spots were a recurring issue, and the infrastructure wasn’t built to handle the number of connected devices that guests now bring with them. In the hospitality sector, poor Wi-Fi isn’t just an inconvenience; it’s a direct driver of negative reviews.

What We Did

We carried out a full Wi-Fi overhaul, replacing the existing setup with a properly architected solution built on Ubiquiti UniFi access points deployed throughout the property.

Access points were positioned strategically across corridors and floors to ensure seamless roaming coverage, with cabling run neatly in surface trunking to keep the installation tidy and unobtrusive. The core network equipment was housed in a wall-mounted cabinet, keeping everything secure, organised, and easy to manage going forward.

The result is a unified, managed wireless network that covers the entire building, from the ground floor through to the upper guest corridors, with no dead zones and consistent performance across all areas.

The Outcome

Guests now connect reliably from the moment they arrive and stay connected throughout their stay. The network is centrally managed, meaning any issues can be identified and resolved remotely without the need for an on-site visit in most cases. The hotel also has clear separation between guest and operational traffic, which is good practice from both a security and performance standpoint.

For a property like this, where the guest experience is everything, having a dependable, well-designed network is no longer optional. It’s part of the service.
