Hitting goals feels good. Celebrating them together feels even better. Here’s why we let the team decide what that recognition looks like.
At Netserve, when a team hits their KPIs and goals, they’re allocated a budget to celebrate, and they get to choose how it’s spent. No top down decision about what the reward should be. The team talks it over and agrees together.
Sometimes it’s treats, a team pub visit, or something completely different that the team has discussed and agreed. Sometimes it’s upgrading the kit on their desks, the Service Desk recently upgraded to shiny new dual curved monitors. The point isn’t the specific thing, it’s the ownership (one of our Company Core Values). When people have a say in how they’re rewarded, it means something.
“It’s not about the budget, it’s about the team feeling like they’ve achieved something together and getting to mark that moment in their own way.”
What this creates in practice is a team that genuinely pulls together. Everyone knows what the goals are, everyone understands why they matter, and everyone has a role in reaching them. The team helps each other out and reinforces our culture of collaboration.
The department goals are agreed quarterly with each department manager. They aren’t arbitrary targets to keep people on their toes. They’re tied directly to what we’re trying to achieve as a business, delivering the best possible service to our clients, improving our processes, and making sure our offering keeps pace with an industry that never stands still. When the team hits those goals, it means something has moved forward for the people who trust us with their IT.
For anyone thinking about joining us, this is one of those things that’s hard to convey in a job advert but easy to feel once you’re here. Goals are shared, celebrated together, and when the moment calls for it marked with a round of drinks or new tech!
